The work of the Committee of Permanent Representatives is coordinated by a five-member Bureau, consisting of a chair, three vice-chairs and a rapporteur, elected, usually by acclamation, from among Committee members, for a period of two years (UNEP Governing Council decision 19/32), that begins on 1 July following their election.
In electing its officers, the Committee ensures that each of the five regional groups of the United Nations is represented. The positions of the chair and the rapporteur are subject to rotation among the five regional groups according to an established pattern.
The current chair of the Committee of Permanent Representatives is H.E. Mr. Firas Khouri Ambassador and Permanent Representative of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to UNEP.
