Monitoring and assessment are indispensable in identifying marine litter status, trends, and its most critical impacts, and to support development, tracking and evaluation of policies and management interventions. The Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter (RAP MALI) of the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA) recognizes the importance of robust and harmonized monitoring of plastic pollution in the environment in the East Asian Seas.
The Asian Development Bank, in collaboration with the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA), is hosting a regional capacity-building workshop: Accelerating Investments for Plastics Circularity, 26-27 June 2024, Jakarta, Indonesia.
The webinar will provide an overview of the assessment and timeline leading up to COBSEA’s 26th Intergovernmental Meeting in Siam Reap, Cambodia (October 23-35, 2024).

Asia Dive Expo (ADEX) 2024
Land-based marine pollution, including the impacts of nutrient waste, sediments, and wastewater, is a considerable threat to the East Asian Seas. It contributes to the degradation of marine and coastal ecosystems by blocking the light and oxygen needed to reach plants and life underwater. In recognition of the increasing urgency of the situation, Nutrients, Sediments and Wastewater is highlighted as a priority area in COBSEA’s Strategic Directions 2023-2027.
