Want to improve your coding skills in a relaxed and fun way?
Ready to use technology to help prevent disasters?
Are you ready to revolutionalise the way we can identify landslides and save lives?
UNEP, as part of the Focus Group on AI for Natural Disaster Management, is launching a worldwide coding challenge to detect the presence of landslides! This competition is currently available on the Zindi platform. The hackathon will be running from August 15th until September 30th. Don't miss out on the opportunity to compete and register here.
The issue of landslide detection is particularly acute in least developed countries and small island developing states. And as climate change intensifies, the landslide hazards could become even more frequent and more severe. With this challenge, the Focus Group is offering the global community to help the most vulnerable in our world to help keep this hazard from becoming a disaster.
This hackathon uses data from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to train models which will eventually be compared with a testing dataset. While the data provided is from Hong Kong, the model that is trained has applications in other areas of the world which struggle with landslides.
Register for the event here and find out about all the prizes!
We look forward to a fun, impactful, educational, and competitive event!
