The Challenge
West Asia is oil rich and water scarce, and the region occupies a strategic geopolitical location at the crossroads of three continents.

These factors, in combination with others, have triggered conflicts and rivalries that have had serious impacts on people and the environment. Peace and improved environmental governance are key to achieving prosperity and resilience in the West Asian region.

Our efforts align with the Secretary General’s supported UN-system wide Youth 2030 Strategy, which emphasizes engaging and empowering young people as agents of change.

Engaging youth as future talents and drivers for change is key for UN Environment Programme in West Asia. We are committed to supporting people to lead more sustainable lifestyles and to support the delivery of environmental education for young people. As such, we have established a youth engagement network to provide a platform for young people to share their ideas and take actions to address environmental challenges.
